Panel Says WikiLeaks Suspect Is Competent to Stand Trial

Pfc. Bradley E. Manning, the Army intelligence analyst who is accused of passing government secrets to the Web site WikiLeaks, has been found competent to stand trial, the Army said Friday. Gary Tallman, an Army spokesman, said a panel of experts had completed a medical and mental evaluation of Private Manning. They informed Army officials of their competency conclusion on Friday, he said. Mr. Tallman said no date had been set yet for an initial court hearing. Private Manning is now being held at a new, medium-security prison unit at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. His case falls under the jurisdiction of the Army’s Military District of Washington.
