Michael J. de la Merced

Michael de la Merced joined The New York Times as a reporter in April 2006, covering Wall Street and finance. Among his main coverage areas are mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcies and the private equity industry.

Mr. de la Merced was a finalist for a Gerald Loeb Award in 2009 and 2012, as part of teams for “The Week That Changed Wall Street” and “MF Global Bankruptcy.”

A New York City native, Mr. de la Merced earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory University in 2003 and a master’s degree in journalism from New York University in 2005.
