Man faces felony shoplifting charges in Athens-Clarke, Oconee County and Winder
An Athens man arrested recently on six felony shoplifting warrants faces similar charges in Oconee County and Winder.
Adarian Tarey Dillard, 52, of Woodridge Circle was arrested July 8 on warrants obtained earlier this year by Athens-Clarke police Det. Nathaniel Franco.
Dillard was arrested after an officer on patrol in the Howard Johnson motel parking lot off Broad Street spotted a vehicle that Dillard was known to have used in some of the thefts, according to the police report.
Franco was notified and he drove to the location and recognized Dillard from having seen him in several store security videos, according to the report.
Two patrol officers at the scene attempted to detain Dillard, but police said the suspect fled on foot. Both officers pursued and reported firing their Tasers at him, but missed.
As Dillard sought escape in nearby woods, Franco was able to catch up to the suspect and stop him with his Taser, according to the report.
Franco has taken out warrants charging Dillard with shoplifting goods valued at less than $10 at the Family Dollar store on North Avenue on Feb. 17 and two lawn mowers valued at more than $700 from the Lowe’s on Lexington Road on April 21.
Franco said other thefts this year occurred at Kroger on U.S. Highway 29 and Ollie’s on Lexington Road. All were felony-grade crimes due to Dillard being a three-time convicted shoplifter, according to the detective.
After the suspect’s arrest, the detective assisted Winder police in identifying Dillard as a suspect in a theft in their jurisdiction.
Oconee County has placed a hold on Dillard, who is charged in two February felony shoplifting cases.
Dillard remained Wednesday in the Athens-Clarke County Jail without bond on additional charges of failing to appear in Clarke County Superior Court to face other criminal charges.
