Summer is undoubtedly my favorite time of year, but autumn is a close second. I love so much about it: The crisp air, the breathtaking panoply of foliage colors, the pumpkin spice everything. And now that it's finally here, I also love the idea of updating my product regimen. Because as the seasons shift, so do the needs of your skin and hair. You may notice your complexion is thirsting for some extra moisture or that your scalp is drier and itchier than it normally is. And of course, right now is when makeup, hair color, and nail polish tend to trend toward the dark side.
And with that, I bring you my roundup of fall's latest and greatest beauty launches. I know there's something here you'll want to whip out your credit card for—from an energizing eye cream that will keep dark circles at bay to a rich floral perfume that will have you smelling gorgeous for the duration of sweater weather. There are also a few things in here to keep the spirit of summer alive if the farewell to warm weather has you feeling a little blue (my advice is to take a whiff of the sunscreen oil on slide 7; you'll instantly be transported back to the beach).
So pour yourself a Pumpkin Bourbon Smash (trust me on this), and have a scroll through my favorite picks. See you at the fall fairgrounds!
IGK Best Life 100% Plant Powered Nourishing Hair Oil
IGK Best Life 100% Plant Powered Nourishing Hair Oil
Meet the Swiss Army Knife of hair products. IGK's multi-use oil can be smoothed on to effortlessly air-dry, protect strands from heat styling, or finish your style. A nourishing blend of baobab, marula, and maqui berry oils moisturize, add shine, and coat locks in protective antioxidants.
Having visited Santorini myself, I know that the grapes there produce some pretty terrific wine. They're also the star ingredient in this luxurious face oil. The powerful antioxidants within protect skin from environmental aggressors and help to improve its tone and texture. Bottoms up!
Inspired by artist Vincent Van Gogh's iconic Sunflowers, here's a scent that's everlasting summer in a bottle. It's a blend of bright citrusy notes (mandarin and bergamot), made richer with amber plum blossom and raw honey. You'll be spritzing and spritzing and spritzing it on.
From the brand that made sanitizer chic (only in 2021, people) comes an alluring new scent that combines notes of apricot, peach, cherry, and raspberry with honeysuckle, amber, and sandalwood. It's a protective mist with the complexity of the finest eau de parfums. You'll actually want to wear this one.
If you're skin tends to be sensitive, especially as the barometer begins to drop, reach for this simple, straightforward moisturizer, which coddles your complexion with ceramides and CoQ10. But there's also blemish- and age-fighting power in this bottle: Bakuchiol, a plant-derived alternative to retinol, refines texture and minimizes the appearance of pores.
Mourning the end of summer? You and me both. But one whiff of this delicate broad SPF oil will immediately transport you to a tropical paradise. Vacation has built its brand on a sense of nostalgia and their second launch, which had a 1700-person waitlist, doesn't disappoint. It's the tanning oil you or your mom rubbed on in the '80s, but with the broad spectrum sun protection your skin needs to stay healthy.
It Cosmetics Hello Lashes+ Volumizing Mascara with Lash Serum
It Cosmetics Hello Lashes+ Volumizing Mascara with Lash Serum
Yes, it's a great volumizing mascara (the lash-wrapping brush separates each hair and the smudge-proof formula is easily removed), but this one has a secret weapon within—a biotin- and oil-infused serum that strengthens and nourishes lashes with every application. You won't believe your eyes.
Kinship Brightwave Energizing + Brightening Eye Cream
Kinship Brightwave Energizing + Brightening Eye Cream
It's a fact: Your eyes are one of the first areas to show the visible signs of aging. This cream tackles them all: vitamin C protects the delicate skin their and stimulates the production of line-filling collagen, red algae brightens pesky dark circles, and chaga mushroom depuffs. Yes, this 3-in-1 is a hole-in-one.
Treat Your Scalp Like Skin—that's the trademarked phrase that accompanies this dynamic duo, from minimalist-chic bodycare brand Nécessaire. The formulas themselves are also refreshingly streamlined, packed with plant-derived cleansers and hydrators to keep your noggin (and what's sprouting out of it) in tip-top shape.
In order to have a healthy complexion you must have a healthy skin barrier (that's the layer of dead skin cells and fats that protect the skin below). That's precisely the point of this oil, with vitamin B3 and prebiotics sourced from French hot springs. Both ingredients strengthen your face's shield to keep things supple.
One of my favorite parts of bedtime involves slathering on a rich reparative night cream. Lately, I've been using this one from Japanese brand Tatcha. Indigo extract soothes irritated skin while hyaluronic acid and ceramides lock in moisture. I wake up looking like I've slept a full 8.
I wore this intoxicating mix of Bulgarian rose, jasmine petals, and peony every day on my vacation—and I'll be wearing it all through autumn too. The florals are balanced by amber, woods, and musk so it's not overly perfume-y.
Got a surprise breakout? Slather on this mask, which gently exfoliates with alpha hydroxy acids and restores your skin's delicate balance of good bacteria to keep pimples from ruining your week.
This cream-to-powder wonder gives you the best of both worlds: Buildable natural-looking color that stays put. Plus, it's infused with skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and tourmaline. Healthy glow, here you come.
Boscia 0.6% Pro-Retinol Repair+Renew Waterless Advanced Treatment
Boscia 0.6% Pro-Retinol Repair+Renew Waterless Advanced Treatment
Broken record time: If you want to do do one important thing to secure the long-term health and vitality of your skin (aside from using sunscreen daily), you should be incorporating a retinol product into your regimen. These days, there are plenty of picks that won't irritate, including this formula by boscia, which was crafted with sensitive types in mind.
Apple cider vinegar is a well-known home remedy for detoxifying the scalp, and this new product from hair maestro Frederic Fekkai puts that homespun knowledge to the test. The ingredient is paired with uber gentle rice exfoliants to rid your hair of buildup and leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized.
CBD is no longer a beauty trend—it's slowly but surely becoming the go-to ingredient for calming inflammation and extinguishing redness. It's part of the special sauce in this moisturizer, from Kristen Bell's line Happy Dance, along with avocado oil and hyaluronic acid.
You'll love the clean formula but it's the brush that really impresses. On one side, there are silicone reservoirs that deposit a uniform coat from roots to tips; on the other are tiny fiber bristles that allow you to comb through lashes for a flatteringly fanned out look.
