Murray Scholls Library busy with more children and families in the new expansion (video, photos)

If you had been standing here in January, you'd have been knee deep in construction. If you had been standing here today, you'd have heard the story of "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus," by Mo Willems.

"Here" is the newly remodeled expansion of the Murray Scholls Library in Beaverton. Today's story time is just one of the many offerings for children hosted at the Beaverton branch library.

John Finn, the branch manager, said that longtime patrons come into the newly remodeled library and are often disoriented. Nothing has changed in the old library space, but now there's a whole new section specifically setup for family and children.

Finn said they have instantly seen an increase in parents and children coming to the library and there's been a 30 percent increase in the number of books checked out over this time last year.

The branch library will be holding a grand opening on April 11th.  Watch for news of the event on the library website.

The Murray Scholls Branch library is at 11200 S.W. Murray Scholls Place, Suite 102, in Beaverton. Regular hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and noon to 6 p.m. Thursday-Sunday. For information, call 503-644-2197.
