Dear Members,

Quick, what comes into your mind when you hear "summer"?  Heat, camp, beach, vacation?  Our members are readers, so we know that some of you thought "BOOKS!"  You don't imagine just the heat - you see a hammock in the shade, with a glass of lemonade and a book.  When you think of summer camp for the kids, you hope for more reading time for Mom and Dad.  Your beach bag has at least one book in it.  And no matter how active your vacation may be, it wouldn't be vacation without an occasional peaceful hour devoted to reading.

And don't forget, this summer means a new way for you to get Book Credits for free!  As always, you can refer other members to the club and for each completed registration of an eligible account, you'll get a free Book Credit for yourself.  Now the Summer Referral Contest escalates the prize - the member with the most referrals each week gets 5 extra credits! There are also three prizes for the most referrals each month, and one big prize for the most referrals for the whole summer.  We have our first weekly winners of 5 Book Credits each already - is one of them you?  See below!

Welcome to Summer 2013! We think it will be a great one, don't you?

Richard and
The PaperBackSwap Team

The perfect beach book - it's the holy grail!  These books are available to order in the club right now.

Richard C. (Richard-luvs-Reading)

Richard has been a member since 2006, and he's swapped hundreds of books. He's a Data Collection and Book Image Collection volunteer, and an avid player in the Games forum. He has a lot of fans there!  Members wrote in to nominate Richard, saying things like:

"...you can always count on Richard to post a selection of great books, and to host some of the most entertaining, games we have. He has a generous spirit that is a credit to the site."

"His efforts in the game forum to help all of us have a great game are unmatched."

Richard, it's obvious that PBS luvs YOU!  You are Member of the Month for June.  Congratulations!

If you have any nominations for Member of the Month, submit them to us hereYour nomination will not "expire"--anyone you nominate will have a chance at getting Member of the Month if enough nominations accumulate over time. Each month the person who has the most votes accumulated when the Newsletter goes to press gets to be Member of the Month and gets a newsletter mention and a nifty MoM icon to wear on profile and forum posts with pride.  So go for it! Tell us who's helped you in the Forums, who's been a great swapper, who in your opinion is a credit to PBS.  We are keeping a list of all the nominated members.  Who knows--one of them might be YOU!

DEAR LIBRARIAN

Dear Librarian -  School's out, and I have so many books that I am sure someone else would like to use!  But they have writing and highlighting in them, and the rules I see when I post books says that writing and highlighting are not allowed.  Is there a way to swap these books here, or am I out of luck?  -   Martha in Maine

Dear Mame,

You're not out of luck!  Even though the rules for book condition exclude writing, highlighting and underlining on text pages, there is a way to swap such books here - under the "textbook exception." (There is also a "travel guide exception" and a "cookbook exception".)  To swap an item under one of these exceptions, just post it normally and then send a Personal Message to the requestor describing the book's condition.  You have to receive a reply Personal Message consenting to the condition before you can mail.  And don't fret about the definition of a textbook - if you used it for a class it can be considered a textbook, and as long as you follow the procedure above, you will never send a "surprise"-condition book. You can read more about this in the Help Center - search there under "textbook" to find all the details.  The full description of book condition rules for the club are here in the Help Center, and are accessible from the Need Help? tab on the upper right of the Post Books page, for easy access while posting books.  And of course if you as a requestor don't want to receive even textbooks with markings or highlighting you can use the Requestor Conditions feature to stipulate that. Be sure to read the Help information about using the RC feature, so that you don't miss out on books you DO want.
