Support the Press
The Friends of the JHU Press program aims to generate financial support, visibility, and enthusiasm for the work of publishing and disseminating significant scholarship under the imprint of the Johns Hopkins University. As donors and book enthusiasts, Friends of the Press help fulfill the Press’s mission of publishing significant, innovative works that may not be self-supporting though sales alone. Members receive discounts on Press books, enjoy opportunities to attend author events, and have special opportunities to learn about the art and business of publishing. When you make a tax-deductible gift by joining the Friends of the Johns Hopkins University Press, you help to support the publication of distinguished books and journals by America’s oldest university press.
There are two programs designed for donors interested in making more substantial gifts.
Reprint Sponsor ($3000)
In the past, after a book’s initial print run was sold, publishers faced an often difficult decision to either print 1,000 or more new copies or allow the book to go out-of-print. As a result, many important books became difficult to find. Now, print-on-demand technology allows the Press to make these books available once again.
To help us expand our print-on-demand effort, the Press invites donors to make a gift of $3,000 to become a Reprint Sponsor and underwrite the costs of making an out-of-print available again.
As a Reprint Sponsor, not only will you make an important and interesting book available to scholars, students, and readers around the world, you will be also be recognized by name on an acknowledgement page in the front of the book, and receive up to five free copies of the sponsored book.
New Project Sponsor ($5,000)
Some books require financial support to cover special costs associated with publication, such as translation, illustrations, or enhanced production values. Special issues of the Press’s scholarly journals occasionally require similar support.
With a tax-deductible gift of $5,000 or more, you have the opportunity to underwrite the publication of a forthcoming book or journal issue that is particularly meaningful to you or someone you wish to honor. Your gift will be acknowledged on a sponsor's page in the front matter of the publication, and you may request up to ten copies at no charge.
