When analysing maritime security issues and Yemen, emphasis tends to be on the state weakness of Yemen and its ‘4.5’ conflicts. While keeping the conflicts in the analysis, this article changes focus and argues that Yemen's position along two maritime highways and situated in two regional ‘cold wars’ should not be neglected.
