Chinese Super League Stats Now on FBref

31st July 2019

FBref's latest addition to our continuously expanding domestic league coverage is the Chinese Super League, which we now have player statistics for back to the 2015 season. We are also tracking the current 2019 season, which sees Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao, Shanghai SIPG and Beijing Sinobo Guoan battling for the top spot on the league table.

Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao is being led this season in scoring by Paulinho, who Barcelona fans may recall as a contributor to their 2017-18 La Liga championship season. Other footballers with European experience now plying their trade in the Chinese Super League include Éder, who spent a decade in the Italian Serie A before playing with Jiangsu Suning for the past 2 seasons, and Ezequiel Lavezzi, who won 4 Ligue 1 championships with Paris Saint-Germain before moving on to Hebei Fortune. In the other direction, Wu Lei was the 2018 Chinese Footballer of the Year after 27 goals scored with Shanghai SIPG, leading the league; he went on to play in 16 games for Espanyol in La Liga.

Argentine Superliga Stats Now on FBref

30th July 2019

We recently released our first South American league coverage with the addition of Brazilian Serie A and Serie B statistics. The second addition for that continent is the Argentine Superliga, which we now have coverage for back to the 2014 season when it was known as Primera División. This addition includes coverage of the 2019-20 season which just kicked off last weekend. We also have match logs for the Argentine league back to the 2015 season.

Some recent young Argentines with added history as a result of this addition include Lautaro Martínez and Giovani Lo Celso. Martínez scored 6 goals in his first season with Internazionale in the Italian Serie A, his followup to a 13-goal and 4-assist campaign with Racing Club in the 2017-18 Superliga season. Lo Celso led Betis in goals scored in the 2018-19 La Liga season, and was a key member of 2017-18 Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 championship; Lo Celso started his career with Rosario Central in Argentina. Also this catches up with players who had success in Europe who are wrapping up their careers in Argentina. For example, Lisandro López won 4 Primeira Liga championships with Porto and the 2009-10 Ligue 1 Male Player of the Year award with Lyon. In 2018-19 López was still going strong with Racing Club, leading the Superliga in goals scored with 17.

Brazil League Stats Now on FBref

26th July 2019

The next addition to FBref's continuously expanding coverage are the Brazilian Serie A and Serie B, which we now have statistics for back to the 2014 season. This includes coverage of the current 2019 season, which sees Palmeiras and Santos atop the Serie A league table.

Going into this weekend, the goals leaders are Everaldo Stum of Chapecoense and Gabriel Barbosa of Flamengo. Stum is returned to Serie A after spending the last 2 seasons in Liga MX with Queretaro. Barbosa, who has experience in the Italian Serie A, is hoping to repeat his 2018 Santos campaign, when his 18 goals led the league. Among keepers, Wéverton currently leads the league in clean sheets. He's already finished in the top 5 in the league in clean sheets in 3 out of the last 4 seasons.
