Summer Reading Challenge 2021: Reading Colors Your World

The 2021 Summer Reading Challenge has ended. Please check back in June 2022 for information about the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge.

Welcome to Tacoma Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge 2021! We’re delighted to have readers of all ages join us. This year’s theme is “Reading Colors Your World!” 

This year, we are offering a virtual reading log option! You can log reading and activities on a computer or mobile device by visiting the Beanstack website, opens a new window or downloading the Beanstack app, opens a new window. If you don’t have access to Beanstack, opens a new window, you can request a paper log by visiting a branch during our open hours, opens a new windowYou can also download and print Reading Logs from home! Find the Reading Log for your age level and fill it in by reading and completing fun activities.

Whether you track your reading using Beanstack or a paper Reading Log, make sure to stop by a branch during our open hours, opens a new window to pick up your pencil and sticker signup prize!

When you've completed the Beanstack challenge or paper Reading Log, stop by a branch during our open hours, opens a new window to collect your completion prize starting on Tuesday, June 22. Those who complete the Summer Reading Challenge will earn their choice of tote bag or yard sign. Prizes are available while supplies last.

The last day to complete the challenge is Saturday, August 14. The last day for Beanstack users to pickup prizes is Saturday, August 31.

Tracking Reading with Beanstack or a Reading Log

There are two ways to track your reading and activities this summer. Once you create a Beanstack account or pickup/download a Reading Log, make sure to stop by a branch during our open hours, opens a new window to pickup your pencil and sticker signup prize.

Completion

When you've completed your Beanstack or paper Reading Log, stop by a branch during our open hours, opens a new window to collect your completion prize starting on Tuesday, June 22. those who complete the Summer Reading Challenge will earn their choice of tote bag or yard sign. Summer Reading Events

Programs and activities will be offered in a variety of formats:

  • Live Virtual Programs Using Zoom - Please check our Upcoming SRC Event listings for more information and to register. Some Zoom programs may require picking up a physical supply kit.
  • Program Kits - Program kits are a fun way to bring our arts and crafts activities home with you - there is no live program element. Please check our Upcoming Program Kit listings for more information and to register.
  • YouTube Videos - YouTube videos will be released throughout the summer and will then be available on demand through our YouTube channel, opens a new window along with a selection of always available YouTube programs.
  • Outdoor Programs - Registration is required for our in-person outdoor programs and are dependent on weather conditions and Pierce County being in Phase 3 or beyond.
