Ever since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 and the ensuing lockdowns, engaged couples have been hit by multiple cancellations, postponements and rescheduled wedding plans. Now, one such couple has finally tied the knot, with James Middleton and Alizee Thevenet proving the old adage, third time's a charm.

The younger brother of the Duchess of Cambridge married his French partner of three years in an intimate ceremony in the Côte d'Azur village of Bormes-les-Mimosas this weekend. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly flew in for the occasion on Saturday morning, with James's other sister Pippa Matthews and his parents Michael and Carole Middleton also in attendance.

The couple looked Riviera-chic in their wedding snaps, with Alizee in an off-the-shoulder white gown with her blonde hair in a half-up, half-down style, and James in a suave cream suit with blue shirt and tie.

Announcing the happy news on Instagram, the 34-year-old wrote: ‘Yesterday I married the love of my life surrounded by family, friends and of course a few dogs.’ Indeed, one of the couple's dogs, a golden retriever called Mabel, could be seen in the background of the glamorous wedding shot.

It is unsurprising that several of James's canine companions were guest stars on the happy day - after all, the couple first met after his cocker spaniel Ella walked up to Alizee in a private members' club in London. It is believed that two of the couple's dogs, the aforementioned Mabel and another of his cocker spaniels Luna, walked them down the aisle.

James revealed last year that he and Alizee had been forced to reschedule their nuptials twice in 2020, due to the pandemic, after becoming engaged in September 2019. A year after their engagement, he wrote on Instagram: 'It's a year since I asked Alizee to marry me… what a year it's been! Two homes, lockdown, two attempts at a wedding, a litter of [dog emoji], launching of new company @ella.co, a beard shave and much more but the best part is that I get to share it with you @alizeethevenet and I can't wait to take on whatever the future holds for us.'
