James formerly headed up our European editorial team and is now our CEO. Originally from Lincolnshire, England, he moved to Sweden in 2003 where he met Paul Rapacioli and they started The Local. He has also lived in London and Paris.
Ben McPartland
Editor – @McPBen
Ben McPartland currently leads our editorial team. A native of Durham, northern England, Ben has also lived in London, Madrid and Liverpool. He moved to Paris, France in 2011.
Anna Agebjörn-McFarlane
Director – Commercial Strategy & Sales
Anna Agebjörn originally harks from the county of Småland in Sweden, but after a 12-year stint in Glasgow and London she claims to feel more British than Swedish. She is now back on Swedish soil and looks after The Local’s key clients.
Catherine Edwards
Europe Editor – @CatJREdwards
Catherine moved to Stockholm to join The Local in October 2015. Originally from Cheshire, England, she studied in Oxford and has also worked in Bologna, Rome and Berlin. She works on reporting and editing across all The Local’s sites.

Nic is our Digital Marketing Manager currently responsible for growing our Membership subscription service. Originally from Australia, he now lives in Stockholm, Sweden.

Lara, originally from Iceland, now lives in Stockholm, Sweden where she manages our ad operations.

Office Manager
Samantha Govender, originally from South Africa, now lives in Stockholm, Sweden. She manages The Local’s office, including payroll, accounts, invoicing, events, and more.

Originally from London, Paul moved to Sweden in 2003. He started The Local with James Savage in 2004.

Rachel is a Berlin-based editor and journalist passionate about telling interesting stories from throughout the country with accuracy and reliability. She freelanced for The Local before becoming Germany Editor in September 2018.

Multi-skilled award-winning journalist with nearly 10 years experience writing and editing for UK and German publications. Rachel joined The Local in September 2018.

Having spent his formative years in Suffolk, England, Michael Barrett moved to Denmark in 2007, where he studied at Aarhus University. Michael began reporting for The Local in 2015 and has previously worked as a freelance writer in Beirut, Lebanon.

Formerly Madrid correspondent for The Daily Telegraph, Fiona covered all manner of issues from across the Iberian peninsula. Originally from Buckinghamshire, UK, she has reported from across Europe with occasional assignments taking her to the Middle East, Latin America and Africa. She joined as Editor of The Local Spain in January 2015.
