Brexit: Struggle to fill seats of power left empty by rebellious MPs

Fifteen posts in Theresa May’s government are unfilled as the prime minister struggles to plug gaps created by the Brexit crisis.

Four junior ministers’ roles and 11 ministerial aide positions are vacant.

On Monday night Alistair Burt, Richard Harrington and Steve Brine all quit as junior ministers in order to defy the Tory whip and vote for Sir Oliver Letwin’s plan to let MPs seize control of the Brexit process.

Their decisions took the number of ministerial resignations over Brexit in under a year to 17. As of last night they had not been replaced.
