UNITAD's Psychologists Provided Different Trainings in July

Al Hakim Foundation – 25 July 2021

Overview

WPSU psychology team contributes to strengthening the technical capacity of Al Hakim Foundation’s psychosocial workers to provide psychosocial support to survivors experiencing mild and moderate mental health related concerns and disorders. The training modules that are delivered focus on a range of essential knowledge and skills that support the setting up of interventions. The sessions are specifically tailored to the needs of survivors, staff and organization in line with international best practices and the ‘no-harm principle’.

Mass Grave Directorate & Medico-Legal Directorate – 26 July 2021

Overview

It will address the key principles of the trauma-informed approach to be adopted at all level of work with the families of missing people. A trauma-informed approach enables to take steps to build rapport, minimize triggering the individual’s trauma-related sensitivities, and use techniques that accommodate the impact of trauma on cognitive functioning. The training aims to provide MGD and MLD’s staff with some practical strategies to improve their capacity to acquire information while creating the best conditions for a safe and comfortable atmosphere.

A training module on Vicarious Trauma and Self Care will be delivered to develop participants’ knowledge and understanding of professional hazards and the importance of implementing safeguarding strategies. We will explore the signs and symptoms of vicarious trauma and the impact they can have on us as individuals, as well as on our work and workplace. We will discuss the benefits of self-care and the various forms self-care might take. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their experiences and develop their own personal self-care toolkit.
