France ignores treaty, to test H-bombs

By United Press International

PARIS -- France ignored the signing of the United Nations-backed nuclear nonproliferation treaty today and rushed completion of plans for her first hydrogen bomb tests in the Pacific.

Gaullist sources reiterated the president's contention that the treaty was not a true measure of disarmament and was merely designed to strengthen the nuclear supremacy of the big three atomic powers.

Signmg of the pact, approved by the U.N. General Assembly June 12, will not slow down preparations for the test explosion of France's first hydrogen bomb. Well-informed sources said the blast might come within a few days as scheduled.

The informants emphasized that while not endorsing the treaty, France has announced her determination not to share her nuclear knowhow with other powers.
