Published: 1963
Twenty-four year old ex-Marine Lee Harvey Oswald after his arrest on November 22, 1963. He received a cut on his forehead and a blackened swollen left eye in a scuffle with officers who arrested him. Oswald, an avowed Marxist, has been charged with the murder of President John F. Kennedy, who was killed by a sniper's bullet as he rode in a motorcade through Dallas. (UPI Photo/Files)

Herbert Gordon: But in Dallas the tragedy of violence and death continued, on stage front and center. A conceded young ex-marine self styled Marxist Lee Oswald, on Sunday as the funeral protégé for the President moved solemnly from the White House to the Capital. In Dallas, Oswald was being moved from one jail to another, and the confusion of the transfer cameras ground, spectators, police and reporters looked on, and a balding 50 years Dallas night club operator Jack Ruby paved his way towards the suspected assassin.

Speaker: And there he comes, Lee Oswald, the accused assassin, 12:25 the way, being escorted by police officers and Sheriffs. " A shot rang out....a shot has rung out and Lee Oswald falls...Lee Oswald has fallen. A shot has rung out... a shot is being in place..... a shot has rung out, and ladies and gentlemen Lee Oswald has just been shot."

Herbert Gordon: Oswald died in the same hospital at almost the same hour that President Kennedy had died two days earlier. Later the FBI after an intensive study of the President’s assassination said, Oswald presumably was the killer and was working alone.
