The continent boasts some of the fastest-growing economies in the world, but democratic gains often falter amid insurgencies, corruption and poor governance. The U.S. Institute of Peace has extended the reach of its Africa programs over the past decade. It works from Tunisia to Nigeria to the continent’s most fragile states, such as South Sudan and Central African Republic. The Institute delivers on-the-ground skills training, education, grants and research with local and international partners to reduce conflict, improve governance and curb violent extremism.
