Women who grew up in foster care rarely have anyone they can turn to for support and guidance. Many navigate the world without the skills, knowledge, or guidance that most of us received growing up at home. The adversities our population has faced vary from being unhoused, incarcerated, and/or survivors of gender-based violence. For some, their adversity has made them stronger. 50/50 Leadership offers a series of financial literacy workshops called Money 101 that provide a basic set of financial skills for managing money. Upon completion of Money 101, we offer our members the opportunity to enroll in a 9-month mentorship relationship to help further their ability to stay on track and to reach their desired goals. You do not need to be a financial expert - while mentees may be looking for accountability in budgeting, if you have had some success managing your own finances over time, we encourage you to apply. We ask that our mentors are at least 30 years old. We will provide training and resources for our mentors. Mentors are expected to complete an activity log after each session with a mentee. The time commitment is no more than 2 hours per month, and one 90-minute training session annually. This is your opportunity to make a very real difference in a woman’s life. What is not basic about this course is that these women have lived through much trauma and present their own challenges so a great deal of compassion is needed. If you can adapt on your feet, be 100% non-judgmental, and truly open to wanting to give these women the skills and knowledge for them to build a financial foundation for their lives, this will be a very rich and rewarding opportunity for you. The Ready to Achieve Mentoring Program (RAMP) TMis a high-tech, career-focused mentoring program for youth involved with or at risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system. Funded by two grants from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) and led by the Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL), RAMP TMis being implemented across the country by state and local organizations with expertise in mentoring, youth development, juvenile justice, and disability. The RAMP TMmodel uses a combination of group, peer, and one-on-one mentoring to promote the successful transition of RAMP TMyouth to employment, continued learning opportunities, and independent living. Youth participate in weekly career preparation-focused group meetings, including peer-supported goal setting and exploration of careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Each youth meets regularly one-on-one with a mentor to develop and implement an Individualized Mentoring Plan (IMP). Mentors are caring adults recruited from the community, schools, employers, and partner organizations. Youths’ families, teachers, and support network are engaged in career fairs, college visits, and extended learning activities. At the end of the program, each group of youth works with an industry advisor to complete a high-tech project. While in RAMP TM, youth have the opportunity to assess and explore their own career interests; develop a plan and set goals for their transition; create a resource map of their community’s high-tech industries; gain workplace soft skills; build resume-writing and interviewing skills; interact with employers and experience a variety of work settings; give and receive peer support; take advantage of group and personal leadership opportunities; design and build a high-tech-related team project, and most importantly... have fun! Our organization focuses on news about making the world a better place, particularly news related to topics such as global poverty, philanthropy, climate change, voluntarism and human rights. The marketing volunteer usually does a mix of the following: 1) Research potential nonprofits that would be a good match for our website. Nearly all of our news is oriented towards making the world a better place, and that's also the mission of most nonprofits We particularly focus on things like global poverty, human rights, democracy, climate change and fighting modern-day slavery. So people who work at and donate to nonprofits that focus on those topic areas are an ideal audience for our news website. Therefore, we want to find those nonprofits and reach out to them. 2) The second main area is doing the outreach to the nonprofits and asking them if they can do either or both of : a) let their team members know about us. and b) let their supporters know about us in their newsletters or social media pages. In the big picture, if their supporters learn more about these topics, they will be better and more committed long-term supporters. So it's to their benefit if their supporters read our articles. It's a win-win for them and for us. We research and find potential grants from foundations, companies and programs across the country. Once we’ve found a grant that we qualify for, we apply. Additionally, we work to maintain current relationships with foundations, companies or agencies that have previously funded our initiatives. Receiving grants is a very important part of maintaining and expanding current programs as well as creating future programs. If you’re not good at writing, you can help with research. And if you don’t prefer to research, you can help with writing! We will also need help with networking and maintaining current relationships. Prerequisites: Professional writing experience helpful. Knowledge of animal rescue community in Chicago helpful. Six-month minimum commitment required.
