Courtney Rukan is The Washington Post's deputy multiplatform editing chief. She spent nearly 10 years working in The Post's Sports department as a copy editor and the desk chief, and then moved to Style. Her stint in features lasted a few months before she was tapped to help create The Post's universal copy desk, of which she has been in charge of day-to-day operations since 2010. She interned at The Post in 1999 and returned in 2000 after graduating from James Madison University. While at JMU, Rukan was the editor in chief and news editor at the Breeze, the student newspaper.
