  • P357 had the English label "title" and datatype "string". title (P1476) is the replacement, but with "monolingual-text" as datatype.
  • P387 had the English label "quote" and datatype "string". quotation (P1683) is the replacement, but with "monolingual-text" as datatype.

@MisterSynergy: No, that was not possible here. I had taken a look at this before but not had any item to rectify the situation here. School boards of Quebec (and some sockpuppettery)

Hi, I seen this morning that LC70 unlinked half of the french school board of Quebec (Q2986739). This is partly because of transformation of some of these administrative units into School service centre (Q86732061). We have a debate in frwiki if the latter id notable there, but they are notable here, so this is not really the point. I warned him about this and reverted if modifications. This is more that he is notorious and permanenttly blocked on frwiki for using sockpuppet (Faux-nez/LC70). And I see in the revision history of [3] and [4]. That he used at least one of his sockpuppet, Ogredesplaines on the same articles. I just ask if this is possible to block him on this behaviour. --Fralambert (talk) 14:04, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

Natascha Strobl, Q55786127

There is an Editwar in german language Wikipedia that should not be pepetuated in Wikidata. --Drahreg01 (talk) 07:09, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

This report lacks merrit, is wrong in its beliefs about the subject and dishonest in it's account. I have listed a source according to which the person this item is about is an activist. There are numerous other sources confirming this, i.e. this one. Factually, there is nothing wrong with my changes. The fact, that at least parts of my changes were restored by another users shows, that there was nothing wrong with them.

The claim by the reporting Drahreg01 that I was perpetuating an editwar from DEWP is wrong. While there was an editwar in the corresponding article in DEWP, that was about a maintenance template, see here. While i certainly believe that Drahreg01 made that claim due to beeing mistaken, I don't know why he has not corrected it.

Drahreg01 had no valid reasons to revert my edit. His argument was not based on the content but rather ad hominem. There no rule banning anyone from editing an item because he is involved into a corresponding Wikipedia article - there is a Consensus that things happen seperately from.each project. Even a arbcom-sanctioned topic ban does not restrict another Users ability to edit the same topic in another project. Therefore, the idea that a User was not allowed to participate in an article due to beeing involved into a discussion in another project and could therefore be reverted ist frivolous.

Reverts can therefore not be based on the editing user and giving the User as a reason for reverting comes close to trolling and I request Drahreg01 to be at least reprimanded for doing so. -- Liberaler Humanist (talk) 16:18, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

The claim by the reporting Drahreg01 that I was perpetuating an editwar from DEWP is wrong.

It strains credulity to assert that an edit is independent, and should be judged without regard to, a discussion with 200+ comments in less than a week, on exactly the change you are making, and in which you participated. And while I'm unfamiliar with the details of cross-wiki extradition practices, the common law doctrine of res judicata comes to mind: as a small and multi-national project, it is essential to make use of the larger user base and localised knowledge other projects have. In that sense, it is not so much any judgement of you as a person that one defers to, but the judgement of dewiki on the content. That practice is entirely in line with the millions of edits that are being done based on content in other projects, and also reflected in core practices of WD (trying to) align its structures to other projects. --Matthias Winkelmann (talk) 20:24, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Dewiki doesn't make decissions for any other project. Neither is a discussion on Dewiki part of Wikidata. It is an idea, that Wikidata aims to align its structures to other projects, one that does not manifest itself into reality when it comes to data imports. Aligning content isn't practical and is excluding users when the process is happening in a project with another language than english. I think it is possible to determine attributes using sources and in this case i refer to the multiple sources supporting the use of activist (Q15253558). -- Liberaler Humanist (talk) 22:41, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

User:Jrm1993

User is repeatedly editing Q92341591 that was solely created for self promotion. Went as far as to revert edits by @Quakewoody:. Blocked on Commons for repeatedly uploading out of scope images. Could do with a warning IMO Gbawden (talk) 10:36, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

  • in fairness, I am in the wrong for my edits. The user shouldn't be punished for reverting them. But, yes, the user's behavior on commons, which then required him to edit here (linking of repeatedly deleted images and category) is an issue - which is in addition to the initial self-promotion edits. Looking through the edit history, I've found the account Ananislam (talkcontribslogs), who also edited this item and a template to also add something about someone named "Anan Islam". @Ytha67: you should open a request on Wikidata:Requests for checkuser to check whether it is the same user. Pamputt (talk) 08:03, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
@Pamputt: Request made, the user has been carrying out these actions for 6 months with a daily puppet (he usually uses a combination of Miller-Lili or the IP that I have in monitoring) and acts under a clear pattern. Their vandalisms affect other wikis, and the tasks that editors do, so greater agility would be necessary to solve this situation. My request is based on the evidence of the user's pattern in global, so I preferred not to load the chekuser with work. It was checked on eswiki and it was positive, so I transferred it to the board directly. Thanks for the help --Ytha67 (talk) 12:12, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Urgent Deletion Request

Hi all, Q98462219, Q98462288, Q98462128, Q98462108, Q98461795, and Q98461729 need to be deleted urgently. They are double redirects created from merging, and the item that they (eventually) retarget to is really quite nonsensical. I have also posted this at RfD; however, this is urgent, and as we all know, RfD is not urgent. I'm just posting this here because it's an urgent matter. Thank you. Regards, Prahlad (tell me all about it / private venue) (Please {{ping}} me) 21:22, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Not urgent, but ✓ Done. Please just report these cases at WD:RfD and do not create such a mess again. —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:19, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
@MisterSynergy: Thank you, but how do I not avoid creating such a mess when there are so many? Prahlad (tell me all about it / private venue) (Please {{ping}} me) 22:24, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
Leave all items as they are, and mention them on WD:RfD. If it is too much to list, you can also simply point to the user's or IP's contributions lists and refer informally to something like "all items created on 2020-08-19 by that user" or so, whatever describes the situation appropriately. Besides that, there is really no need to hurry in case of test items such as this ones. —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:29, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

I would like to report a person User:ItsVaibhuuu . The person is tricking wikidata by creating a fake bot like user page User:BotxVaibhu . Reporting spam edits with item Q56440858

This wikidata item Q56440858 was created in the year 2018 . From 13 August 2020 onwards there were few edits made to this item by IP: 2405:204:3390:947e:dc8a:3777:cdfd:ce5b . There were two wikidata items deleted about the person who was here to promote himself and his digital marketing company . Both his wikidata items got deleted . The person then used this item Q56440858 who was about Dr.Sunil Kumar [1] , he made several edits such as : (added his twitter handle , added his google knowledge graph id and added his date of birth) . I would request to undo previous edits made by the person who wants to use this item Q56440858 for his own promotional purpose as name being the same .Rockpeterson (talk) 07:27, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

Mike Novikoff

I warned the user for personal attacks (in Russian), they have chosen to continue. I applied a short block. They said they retired, and, indeed, disappeared for a while. However, today they posted personal attacks (this time in English) against me on their talk page [9]. Whereas these personal attacks are kind of mild, I am not sure I like the language that I "killed" someone. Their "well-known" link leads to a site created as an attack site against ru.wp admins about 10 years ago, when I was still active in the Russian Wikipedia (the site tracks the visitors IPs). May be an administrator can have a look and, if appropriate, help the user to keep their promise to retire. Thanks.--Ymblanter (talk) 10:18, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Removed and warned. Bovlb (talk) 15:56, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

It would be unfair not to ping the involved user @Mike Novikoff:--Trade (talk) 07:57, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Thank you Trade. It's really not fair to act in a non-transparent way, unless dealing with a blatant vandal (that I'm certainly not).
Yes, I do have a series of concerns regarding the issue, although I'm not sure whether it helps if I express them now. But just in case... First, is the phrase "One more message like this, and I am going to block your account" a proper way to warn a user in good standing? It's more like a policeman dealing with a criminal, and it doesn't even allow the user to explain himself. Second, is 3 days block really a short one for a user with almost 6 years of WD tenure, ~5500 of flawless edits and a clean log? It just ruined my motivation, and it makes me feel like I'm no longer a decent member of the community. Third, is it civil to say "help the user to keep their promise to retire"?
Last but not least, I'd rather not be handled by any sysop with Ruwikian background. I have left ruwiki in February 2019 for much the same kind of handling, and I thought I am a member of a much larger and healthier community instead. After all, my home is enwiki, and I never had any conflict there ever since 2012.
I don't really know why wikireality.ru is called "an attack site", afaik it's just a meta-informational one dedicated to various MediaWiki-based projects and blogs, and even to Web 2.0 as such. And I don't know what's wrong with "the site tracks the visitors IPs"; doesn't any website in the world have its access logs? — Mike Novikoff 18:30, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Is it true that nobody, no one says me a word of encouragement? No one even says that WD needs quality more than quantity? — Mike Novikoff 21:10, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Potentially abusive behaviour by Jura1

At Wikidata:Requests for deletions#Q98077491 Jura1 is repeatedly berating a user to add a reference for the statement instance of (P31): position (Q4164871), or else have the item be deleted. This appears to be little more than a continuation of his long-standing disagreement over a widely-used approach to modelling legislative positions. Last time Jura tried this same approach (at Wikidata:Requests for deletions/Archive/2018/08/06#Q52474426 (and following) and Wikidata:Administrators'_noticeboard/Archive/2019/04#Q33129158:_unreferenced_statements_addition), a topic ban was mooted. Despite being directly reminded of this, Jura continues to engage in what seems overly-aggressive, if not outright abusive, behaviour towards Gettinwikiwidit. Would someone mind having a look at whether this is acceptable behaviour? --Oravrattas (talk) 12:14, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

  • I think most of your concerns can be explained as - there is a language barrier which often makes some people come across as bullying/hostile/aggressive/abusive. Quakewoody (talk) 15:44, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
    • I think there's certainly an aspect of that, but this goes well beyond tone and language. This is repeatedly demanding references for a modelling choice on a structural item — behaviour for which Jura has previously been warned. The linked discussions above, and other discussions linked from these, show a long history of opposition on Jura's part to this modelling approach, despite it being widely and successfully adopted by multiple editors for the legislators of many countries, and explicitly documented as an acceptable model within the relevant Wikiproject. This sort of attack on a new editor attempting to do likewise to improve the political data for another country seems to be part of a repeated pattern of behaviour, rather than a simple disagreement hampered by a language barrier. --Oravrattas (talk) 18:24, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
  • I've closed the deletion discussion as not deleted, no comment for now about Jura1's behaviour --DannyS712 (talk) 00:07, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
  • For my part, I admit I'm new here and may need some orientation. I attempted to start a discussion here [10]. I brought this attempt to Jura's attention in the middle of the discussion. As I mentioned to him more than once, I'm open to the discussion, but forcing the issue by threatening to delete doesn't seem like the right way to have the discussion. I'm still open to redirection and happy (eager even) to discuss my work. -- Gettinwikiwidit (talk) 04:03, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
Also, reading the threads to which Ovrarattas has referred, it seems that the source of Jura's frustration is the affiliation of the data model with a WMF grantee. FWIW, I have no such affiliation. My interest started with noticing that the example given on the SPARQL examples page produced less than 100 senators. I started manually cleaning up that data following what appeared to be common practice and have since fetched all historical senator data and plan on doing a complete backfill. As mentioned in this discussion with Jura, I'm currently corresponding with the U.S Assistant Senate Historian for clarification on differences between their bioguide data and what was gleaned from Wikipedia. (Wikidata itself is extremely spotty on senator information.) -- Gettinwikiwidit (talk) 04:29, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

If the community checks my contributions (Special:Contributions/Hallel), it will realize that I spent a lot of time to reverse the actions of an IP that classified countless rabbis or Jewish leaders as apostates to Catholicism. It seems to me prejudice and, at the same time, religious proselytism in the project, which violates Wikimedia project policies. Searching the internal links of item Q55004488 (Special:WhatLinksHere/Q55004488), there are many historical figures classified like this, apparently all labeled as apostates by the blocked user @Bossanoven. As his main account was blocked, he possibly used IP's to continue to fulfill his objectives that he had previously accomplished. An example of problematic editing is in entry Q11613 about Harry Truman. He is a Baptist and was classified as an apostate of Catholicism, even though there was no source that he had been excommunicated from the Catholic Church, or even participated in the Catholic Church previously. I ask the community to analyze the problem and I suggest programming a robot to reverse similar actions. Hallel (talk) 12:58, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

@GeneralNotability: Thanks for letting us know. They don't seem to have created many items recently, and those are of borderline notability. (Our criteria are more tolerant than ENWP's.) There are a couple of Wikimedia Commons links, a handful of identifiers, and a clique of inter-item links. If the Commons categories were deleted, they would probably fail notability. Undisclosed paid editing is another matter, of course. I will leave them a warning. Bovlb (talk) 18:54, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

I've seen that the property proposal page WD:PP/Generic doesn't show the last three items, just a link to them. Is that some broken template? --CrystallineLeMonde (talk) 19:00, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

@CrystallineLeMonde:. No the template is not broken, it just can't be rendered by the parser used by MediaWiki. In the source text of the page I could find "Post‐expand include size: 2097152/2097152 bytes", which basically means the amount of templates breaks the transclusion on the page. Any templates being parsed after the limit was reached, will not completely render. Please see the Wikipedia:Template limits page on the English wiki for more info on this problem. It could be solved by moving templates to a subpage and link to it, instead of transcluding it. Hope this helps. --Wiki13 (talk) 20:40, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

As a rule it's better if broken identifiers can be marked as deprecated, rather than outright removed. This allows them to be investigated as a group, to see whether they may have been systematically changed to some new values on the source website -- for such a search, it's quite useful that the item did once have an ID on the site. Please restore the red link/links in this family tree

More red links may appear once the gap is restored. Someone is nominating the fringes of these noble families for deletion, as they get deleted they damage the family trees by creating gaps in the tree. There is a structural need for these people, despite them not being "famous". The nominations only say "non notable" or "notable?" without recognizing their structural need. I have noticed that the nominator has been removing the interlinks between people before nomination so that the "On hold This item is linked from X others" does not show up. For instance look at these edits I restored: https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q75891084&action=history We as a group decided to upload the data from The Peerage, if we want to delete the people on the fringes of the family or earliest ancestors, we should discuss this as a group to gain consensus, and create a bot to do it, rather than do it on an ad hoc basis that creates gaps in the family trees. I see the rationale "No genealogy" when I challenge a deletion, but it is a concept from English Wikipedia, with no equivalent rule at Wikidata. --RAN (talk) 16:17, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

To be fair to User: Iamthecheese44, I don't think they have been removing any more statements, after you said to them that this was not appropriate immediately prior to nomination.

@Wiki13: as deleting admin: Were you aware that Iamthecheese44 had deleted these inter-item links before requesting deletion? See discussion for Q96202812 and discussion for Q76302538. Bovlb (talk) 17:46, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
@Bovlb: No, I was not aware of this prior to this request. I personally looked at the content as it was when I reviewed the item and judged based on that it doesn't meet WD:N. Per request here I have restored the items. --Wiki13 (talk) 17:56, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
No one is blaming you! It would be more helpful if we displayed the trees here at Wikidata so that it would be easier to visualize the connections. We have a rule against adding a property that is synthesized from other properties. That is why we don't have a property for age_at_death. --RAN (talk) 18:05, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
  • All the deleted items should be restored, they have a clear structural need. The structural need isn't obvious unless you are looking at the graphic of the tree (see above) which is displayed at Commons. Removing the interlinks between people before nomination so that the "On hold This item is linked from X others" does not show up appears to be a deliberate gaming of the deletion process, so it gives the appearance that there is no structural need. There appears to be no rationale as to why one individual in a tree is deleted and others retained, its appears to be random. I only noticed it because the red links and breaks in the trees were showing up in Commons, which brought me to the deletion debates. --RAN (talk) 18:02, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
We also need an automated way to restore the relationships between entries that were deleted before nomination. Is there a way to do this? See for example https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q75891091&action=history where I had to restore a link to a parent. As I mentioned earlier, I believe these were done to prevent the "On hold This item is linked from X others" flag from appearing in the deletion nomination. --RAN (talk) 19:04, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
Working from the list of Iamthecheese44's deleted contributions, I have restored 7 items that were deleted after removal of inter-item links, on the grounds that their requests for deletion were similarly made under misleading circumstances. I have attempted to restore the links to them removed from other items, but I may have missed something. Any there are other deleted items we should be looking at? Bovlb (talk) 23:17, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
I hope that is the extent of it, it appears to have been caught early, thank you. I think the editor only started recently, as way to get around recent deletion saves. --RAN (talk) 05:19, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
I apologize for any chaos I might have caused--it was very much unintentional. I am relatively new to Wikidata, though I have worked on English Wikipedia for a number of years. I assumed that privacy and notability guidelines were the same across all Wikimedia projects, and I thought I was helping by requesting deletion and removing those statements. I didn't realize those pages had been deliberately imported from The Peerage--especially given many of them only had mother and father statements--not even given name/surname statements or sibling statements. I actually added a number of these statements on a number of pages. Many of them were mostly empty (aside from parental/spousal statements), and a couple of the pages were for stillborn children; and so I had thought a genealogy enthusiast had just been a little overenthusiastic and was just entering available data as one would on an ancestry site. This is why I stopped when it was brought up to me, and I did go back and undo a few of them--I would have undone more, but I've been out of town with family for a couple of weeks. I'll double-check and make sure everything is put back. It honestly wasn't intended as malicious, although in hindsight I can see how it might come across as such. Again, I apologize for the trouble and for the misunderstanding.
~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 05:15, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
In my opinion as how Wikidata is worked, mentioned in a Wikipedia article which is supported by a reliable source is enough for inclusion.--GZWDer (talk) 09:29, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I'm not familiar with how this process works and whether or not I'm doing this right, but it has been brought to mine and other's attention that this user has created thousands of translations of articles into a fake, completely made-up variation of English which they are attempting to pass-off as the Scots language; thus threatening the survival of an already endangered language. Google Play Music's shutdown / transition into YouTube Music, and making changes to associated properties

Google Play Music is starting its shutdown sequence in September 2020, and by December 2020, the service completely ceases operation, which is now being replaced by YouTube Music. The properties associated with GPM should be transitioned / renamed to their YTM counterparts where it's applicable.

As it seems like, Property P4199 (GPM album ID) could be transitioned to YTM. The formatter URL needs to be changed to https://music.youtube.com/browse/$1, but I guess it also needs some other tweaks as well.

On the other hand, I think Property P4198 (GPM artist ID) couldn't be transitioned that easily, because the YTM site uses the autogenerated channels (YouTube auto-generated artist channel (Q72108010)) for the artists featured (for the one I've checked).--CrystallineLeMonde (talk) 00:26, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

Mass deletion nomination

User:Baby come mass nominated items created by me for deletion within minutes. I don't think they are able to comprehend criteria #2 of the Wikidata notability policy or actually checking for sources. I would appreciate it if administrators actually look at the sources before deleting the items. Criteria #2 was satisfied on all the items but they still got deleted. Kunal Shah, for example, had dozens of high quality sources like [13] [14] and linked from Freecharge which even has a Wikipedia article. But this too got deleted within two hours from the nomination! The deletion process here needs a serious relook. Karatesausage (talk) 05:59, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

As the deleting admin I feel I need to reply here. I find it to be slightly disrecpectful to say that admins should look at the items, while in reality that already happens. I did review the item with the notability guideline in mind and based on that it didn't meet it. Concerning the links' quality, those links aren't exactly "serious and publicly available references", which is required by policy. Times of India has reliability issues, as does livemint, which makes them not a good and serious source. If any admins are reading here and disagree with my reasoning, please feel free to undelete the items. --Wiki13 (talk) 07:45, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
@Wiki13: I'm reopening this, because I don't feel it's appropriate for the deleting admin to close a request for deletion review like this, regardless of the correctness of the deletion.
@Karatesausage: It's hard to respond without more specifics. I'm looking in your deleted contributions and I see:
  • Q98236246 (Qamar Zaman, American entrepreneur)
  • Q98000110 (‎Kunal Shah, Indian entrepreneur)
  • Q97958819 (‎Vivek Teja, Martial artist)
  • Q97667218 (‎Michael Muthu, Indian actor)
  • Q97657487 (‎Nupur Parulekar, Indian television actress)
Is this what you're talking about? For one or more of these, could you please explain specifically why you feel they meet our notability criteria? Bovlb (talk) 15:39, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

User:Karatesausage I see your all wikidata Item. Your 98% Wikidata Item is Not Notable, advertising and Social media promoting and also you did use unreliable reference that did violation wikidata policy . And also i think you do paid edit because only paid editor make more not notable, advertising and promoting Item. So you should stop advertising item create. And also you should read carefully wikidata notability policy. Remember wikidata not marketing place. I think you will stop promoting itam create.Baby come (talk) 17:16, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

@Bovlb: The intention of closing this was more like "this question has been answered". I do however understand where you are coming from and I agree that the way I handled it could have been better. I will try to avoid to have another "involved closing" of a review. Wiki13 (talk) 17:32, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
@Karatesausage: Since Baby come raised it above, I wanted to draw your attention to our Terms of Use, especially the rules on "Paid contributions without disclosure" and the related FAQ. I make no judgement about whether you are a paid editor, but I leave it to you to ensure you are in compliance. Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 17:45, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
  • Kunal Shah is the founder of the Indian online company Freecharge which is undeniably notable. Criteria #2 is met as there is a plethora of "serious" sources on him. It's weird that TOI and Mint are considered to be unreliable on this site because they are two of the most widely circulated newspapers where I come from. Regardless of that, here are some more sources. Take your pick:- Economic Times, Business Standard, Quartz, Financial Express, VC Circle Entrepreneur, Forbes, The News Minute. Please Google "Kunal Shah Freecharge" or "Kunal Shah Cred" if these are also not enough.. Criteria #3 is also satisfied because "Founder" is an important parameter in the item of a company (correct me if my interpretation of criteria #3 is wrong).
  • Michael Muthu has acted in major Indian films like 2.0 and Dil Bechara, and is a veteran theatre director and producer. Check [15], [16], [17] for proof of criteria #2 being met. Being on the cast of notable films also makes him eligible to pass under criteria #3 (?).
  • Vivek Teja is an international karate champion [18]. There are many sources on him:[19], [20], [21].

There's over a dozen items that got deleted last night. I shall be back to address the supposed notability issue on the other items when I have more free time. If other users had checked the references used in these items before hastily deleting them off, I wouldn't be wasting my time collecting sources and typing these lengthy comments. Karatesausage (talk) 18:52, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

The nominator is now making bad faith accusations (that's what I can understand from their comment). I see no useful contributions from their edit history. All they have done here is nominate items for deletion with faulty understanding of the notability policy and make incorrect assumptions on the motives of other users. Karatesausage (talk) 19:00, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

@Karatesausage: Do you want this thread to be about accusations of user misconduct, or about getting these items undeleted? I recommend the latter, and suggest that bringing in the former (even if you feel provoked) will prove to be an unhelpful distraction. I don't have time to dig into the details right now, but will check back later. Bovlb (talk) 22:58, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
For the record: I undeleted Kunal Shah, as it fulfilled a structural need to some other items. --Wiki13 (talk) 06:20, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
  • I think everyone reading this, at one point or another, has been accused of "not making any useful contributions, and only nominating items without understanding the notability process". Quakewoody (talk) 18:45, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

Could you give use some examples, please? The only case I found where you reverted them is Special:Diff/1265645241, where their description (relying on Google Translate) seems accurate and free from hate language, if not an ideal description. @Arkanosis Bovlb (talk) 18:39, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
@Tuanminh01: I agree totally with Bovlb on this. The one example that you reverted wasn't at all hate speech; literally translated (with google of course) it means "A revolutionary, the Korean patriot was famous for assassinating Itō Hirobumi - Japan's first prime minister." If somebody did a bad thing (take Derek Chauvin (Q95693632) for example) would you shower them with sugar and roses? Obviously not. I looked through this guy's edits, and they seem pretty OK. Just stating the facts is not "hate language". --Prahlad (tell me all about it / private venue) (Please {{ping}} me) 20:24, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

Here is another reversion, removing text that apparently says In Vietnam there is no such thing as a prisoner of Luong Tam, which is an odd description to place on a prisoner of conscience (Q4667873). Other recent edits may have a certain point-of-view, but do not seem egregious. Today appears to be the first time anyone has brought a criticism to this user's talk page, and it is unactionably vague (Stop vandalism // Plus you ruined you, idiot.). Please make an effort to explain to this user how they should improve or, failing that, give us a better case for action. Cheers Bovlb (talk) 18:07, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

Okay, we'll need your help with Vietnamese, please:
  • First diff says he's a deceiver selling the country;
  • Second diff says he's a thug selling the country;
  • Third diff says that there's no such thing as a prisoner of conscience in Vietnam.
Is that correct? Anyway, even without taking the replacement into account, the first two diffs look problematic as the description was correct before.
Thanks — Arkanosis 09:06, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
@Arkanosis: your translations show only the general meaning but not offensive connotations. Mạc used swear word and slur: éo (fucking), ba que (to direct at South Vietnam, it's like saying nigger to African Americans, except that this word is not used among South Vietnamese themselves, only communists use this towards nationalist South Vietnamese), and serious accusation: bán nước (traitor of the country, which is very grave in Vietnamese political culture). 2604:3D08:4E7F:F7E0:CDEE:8DAC:7C49:D3C0 16:02, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

@Bovlb: User is at it again, reverting someone else's reversion of their vandalism. DHN (talk) 00:56, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

@Bovlb, @Arkanosis: It appears that user Mạc had other vandalism behaviors in the past. All of his edits in Q5874387 were vandalism, including Special:Diff/1227570381 which can be translated as: "a damned reactionary with fantasy about overthrowing the [Vietnamese] government". In Vietnamese communist propaganda rhetoric, calling someone phản động (reactionary) is synonymous with labeling them the "enemy of the regime", and the connotation of this term today has become like dehumanizing that person. Looking at the history of the page, I suspect that this user also used sock-puppets to vandalize as well.

In the Facebook discussion group of Vietnamese Wikipedia, we have got multiple questions and complains about these vandalism behaviors related to Wikidata's description, such as https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=195934831951073&set=g.320344071353929 , https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=700448813840577&set=g.320344071353929 . RfDHelper.js

Hello, just a notification for other admins that I revamped MediaWiki:Gadget-RfDHelper.js. If there are any problems with it, please tell me. It still mostly includes code from the times when merged items were deleted. If it isn't useful anymore, it can be disabled, or new features that admins currently need can be added to it. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 09:41, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

Matěj Suchánek, Thanks! Can we also add a feature so that when someone clicks delete link it automatically includes Special:Permalink/ to reason. I have previously added that to {{Rfd links}} template itself, but it no longer work and I think implementing it via the gadget is the best option. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 13:46, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
It should be possible (but it would obviously make an inconsistency between deletions done with and without JavaScript). --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 10:10, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Comment for now, I'm  Neutralchanged to  Oppose see below. Veillg1 did a lot of mistake at first (some very obivous like Special:Diff/732551305 or Special:Diff/748595395, some more minor - wrong uppercase, too lenghty description, and so on) but he did learn and understood at least some of the rules ; it seems to be more acceptable now but I still see some mistakes in his recent edits. @Veillg1: to prove that you really understand the conventions, could you correct and clean your own old mistakes on French and English labels and descriptions? Could you also pledge to never ever use Google Translator anymore for label and description? Finally and optionally, out of curiosity, why do you only edit label and descrption and never properties?  Neutral per VIGNERON. For the old error, we could do a Querry, like for the long descriptions and descriptions begining by a article. If @Veillg1: correct them, and promise no never use Google Translator anymore, he will gain my trust. --Fralambert (talk) 11:59, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
Let us put in historical perspective that the litigation mainly concerned the descriptive fields on WD (except English and French); I was little involved in other aspects of WD except the hyperlinks. The complainants of the time on WD exaggerated the situation of the descriptive fields; themselves made a lot of mistakes in deleting the good descriptive fields on WD of my design, often to replace them in their style. Following this blockage on WD, the two complainants continued to make hundreds of other errors each by deleting my work on the descriptive fields (except French and English). For example, one of the complainants erased the Spanish descriptive fields of my design even if the text was appropriate. I was so insulted by this unfair blockage to which I was a victim, to the point of boycotting participating in any WP project for about nine months. Note that Wikipedia has become a life project, although I am currently questioning it. I fully understand the rules of WD; and I am committed to comply with it. If you consult my past involvement as a designer on the whole of WP, you will notice my editorial rigor and my concern to respect the generally accepted rules in research and writing. I intend to continue to design with rigor. However, for now it is not my intention to be very participatory on WD.Veillg1 (user talk 01:10, 31 August 2020 (CEST)
So, to sum up: you don't want to correct your past mistakes, you call the official convention « their style », and you don't intend to take part in Wikidata, then I clearly change my position to  Oppose. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 13:08, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
On September 2, 2020, VIGNERON presented on his French talk page five examples of the most important alleged errors made by Veillg1 among its last 500 contributions to WD. One is by no means a mistake. The others relate to small details (eg: article "one" at the beginning of the description field on WD, or the removal of the capital letter from the word "Serbian"). It makes a mountain with details that shouldn't even be the subject of a talk page. In short, VIGNERON has no convincing argument to support the request for this blocking. Besides, on his talk page, he attacks me in a very rude way without justification. I reiterate my request to remove this complete block which I consider to be based on flawed arguments. I reiterate my commitment to continue my editorial rigor within the parameters of WD.Veillg1 (user talk 17:00, September 2, 2020 (CEST)
It's maybe « detail » (I disagree but let's assume...) but it's still points that are not following Help:Description, and for someone to claim to have « rigor », details should matters. Plus, Veillg1 is cherrypicking the examples, I gave 8 (not 5) examples on my talk page, there is 2 more on this page (see supra) and there is many many more. The is starting to getting tedious, he know start to threaten me so I won't take part in this discussion anymore. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 11:12, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Considering the ongoing discussion regarding AG's edits on Scots Wikipedia i think it would be best for us to revert his edits to Scottishs labels and description on Wikidata. This is has caused serious trouble to websites that scrabe from Wikidata: I quote from the above discussion:

The user contributed to many other wikis, including the Scots Wiktionary in Incubator, many entries adding translations for Scots on English Wiktionary and has almost as many edits on Wikidata as on Scots Wikipedia of which (almost) all relate to Scots translations.

He also has notable number of contributions to Norfolk-Pitcairn, Kapampangan, and Novial Wikipedias.

Please check Special:CentralAuth/AmaryllisGardener for potential vandalism on any projects in languages you know. Tracerneo (talk) 15:58, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

  • I brought up the Wikidata problem, and the knock-on effect that this is having on WWW sites that scrape Wikidata, on Hacker News. One thing that has already come out of that is that the title and Wikidata entry for even are suspect. Yes "Laird's Prayer" (landowner's prayer) is what is telling the world to be the Scots translation. Jonathan de Boyne Pollard (talk) 05:47, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

What do you others think? --Trade (talk) 11:48, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the ping GZWDer. I have been doing some work on this alongside the people currently working on cleaning up Scots WP. One thing that's important to note is that while the original RFC focused on a single user, it's become clear that a lot of Scots WP content from other users has similar problems - it's a systematic issue across the wiki, so focusing on one user isn't necessarily the way to go.
For the moment, what I'm doing is focusing on cleaning up items where the Scots page has been deleted, usually by removing the labels but sometimes by confirming they're OK (notes). I believe this will probably deal with most of the worst cases. For articles that are moved to new titles by scowiki, I'll run a script to make sure the labels are consistent with the names scowiki has chosen to use (this renaming will mostly affect places, I think).
Assessing items that have Scots labels/descriptions but never had a scowiki page is a little trickier (since it's harder to do through the query service). The majority of these are "default" entries - labels on family names, descriptions on categories, etc. But there are some "normal" items with Scots labels (eg painter (Q1028181)), and these will need sorted out - either manually or by mass-blanking. I haven't looked at any Scots localisation (which MisterSynergy mentioned above will still need assessing) or any Scots lexemes (are there any?).
I hope this sounds OK to everyone. Potentially we could go for wiping all Scots labels/descriptions/aliases and then rebuilding from confirmed scowiki article titles, but from my understanding of the situation, I don't think we need to consider that just yet.
