WOLA: Advocacy for Human Rights in the Americas

Central America

Central America today is afflicted by high levels of violence and insecurity, endemic corruption and weak rule of law. Democratic institutions remain fragile and governments have been unable, and sometimes unwilling, to spur equitable development, curtail corruption, or combat increasing criminal activity.

WOLA works with colleagues in Central America and the international community to prevent violence, promote judicial independence, support security sector reform, and combat corruption and organized crime. We monitor the impact of U.S. and international assistance on the ground, and support ongoing efforts to establish conditions for democratic governance and to bring justice for human rights violations.
